Building Plans for Library

November 16, 2009

Many of you have been asking when the plans for the new building would be ready.  Now they are!  The Library Board of Trustees has approved the architect’s (Jeff Tosh of CMH) drawings, and we are ready to move forward.  Click on the slideshow below to see the plans.

Progress on the new Library -

September 23, 2009

Even though you haven’t seen any new posts recently, plans are coming along for the new building!  We hope to have plans ready for public presentation sometime in October.  In the meantime, City workers have done some landscaping on the front of the property.

“Literary Tastes”, the Library Foundation’s fundraiser for the new building, was held Monday night at Madelyn’s in the Grove.  Almost 200 people attended.  Sixteen restaurants and caterers set up booths and served their specialties to the crowd – and others provided paper goods, tea, and music.    Everyone seemed to be having a good time – please enjoy the slide show and plan to come be a part of the party next year!

Planning for New Building!

July 6, 2009

We are busy working with the architect on preliminary plans for the new building!  We were happy to have input from almost 150 people from the community – and their ideas for the new facility were compiled and discussed with the architect.

As you can see, the City has been busy clearing the front of the property in preparation for a new look — 100_1984100_1990

Don’t forget to go to the Farmers’ Market on Thursday for “Happy Days” sponsored by The Athens News Courier and many businesses in the community to raise money to renovate and re-purpose that building into your new library.

Remember to send us your ideas —
